I have lived in Shenzhen for one year. I have rented an apartment and recently moved out. Unfortunately the landlord refused to return the deposit. If you have any idea how to return a deposit please advise.

According to my (Chinese) wife, what you experience is very, very common, even for Chinese renters. The only recourse seems to be to give the required notice to leave the property (in accordance with the terms of hire) and NOT pay the final months rent.
