I don't understand why US dollars are not allowed in Ghana yet every thing is priced using the US dollar standard ?   Rent prices are priced by us dollars and so is every thing else. Why the government puts up with this?   You should charge prices in GHS since that is the only money accepted. You are not living in the US you are living in Ghana .My rent changes every month and the land lord is the only one that profits because my income does not change so why should the cost of living.

You are very lucky that you can pay monthly as most landlords demand one to two years rent up front. You could take your landlord to the rent control office as he is not supposed to charge rent in dollars.

David:

On reading you comment-I can offer for you simply that this is the way of the world in Africa where the US dollar is the most accepted currency in the world-not to mention being fairly stable amidst a potpourri of devalued currencies. I would note also that nearby West African country Liberia has a dual currency system in which there is the US dollar right along with the Liberian dollar-the only of its kind in West Africa-and I believe all of Africa. These governments in Africa such as Ghana make huge profits off of this single currency system which "banning" the use of US (except for the elite and their cronies). Why they don't even allow you to sent money out by money remittance (except for Liberia). You just have to live with it-or you can be smart by capitalizing off of such system
