Dear Christine
If you are interested in history and/or archaeology then you should visit the remains of the roman city Augusta Raurica.
It is spread over the area of the villages Augst & Kaiseraugst, ~11km east of Basel. You can get there by train (Kaiseraugst) or by bus (lines 81 & 83). Check out augustaraurica.CH.
Apart from the museum where you will see the famous silver treasure, all places are free to visit.
Plan the whole day to see everything.
