What are your tips and advice for getting a first job in the Turks and Caicos Islands?

What are the job hunting steps to follow? Where to look for offers: newspapers, Internet, recruitment agencies, word-of-mouth?

What are the top hiring sectors?

Finding a job in the Turks & Caicos Islands is difficult.  In order to work here you must have a work permit.  They are expensive and difficult to get.  You are not allowed to work unless you have the actual work permit in hand and I know people who have been waiting months to get theirs.  (You can only work on the receipt if you are renewing your work permit and even then it is problematic.)   Unemployment among the local population is very high.  You may only endorse family on a work permit if you are classified as a skilled worker.

You may not travel to the Turks & Caicos for the purpose of finding a job.  You can check the local papers for job opportunities but many of those are for work permit renewals.  Others will be tagged belonger only.
