Best Way to Search for Apartments in HCMC?

I know there are adverts in the housing section of Expat.com, but can I get some recommendations for other resources to search?

I've found plenty of Vietnamese language web sites with listings.  Can these typically be rented by foreigners?

I am afraid not because landlords are usually unable to speak English.

Check out Realquest, they have been recommended by our employer (Saigon international school). Although I'm not yet in Vietnam, I have heard good things from colleagues and been throwing emails back and fourth from them. Their prices don't seem too over the top either, unlike many that up their price on expats.

Hello

I would suggest that you take a look at our Housing section, please refer to the hyperlink below :

Dont rent through places that specialise in expat rentals, you will pay through the nose. Get a local to help you look through Vietnamese sites, first thing you ask is if they are registered with the local mafia, sorry police.Dont rent a place unless the owner is registered with the green mafia.

hi there, if you work at an international school I assume you are a teacher? then how come you don't know how to spell "forth"??? fourth is the 4th number!!!

Su,a sentence should start with a capital, just letting you know seeing as you are being pedantic.

@colinoscapee: What do 'local mafia' and 'green mafia' mean?

Jetvietnam, read what I wrote again, the answer is in there.

@colinoscapee Did you mean police?

Oh I don't know.
Kind of livens things up a bit. :D

Its quite tame really, try some other sites where it really flies.

I have a available 40m2 room in my house - with full furniture.
If you dont know where to ask .. just ask me (:D - joke ....)

Hi Colinoscapee

Your suggestions sounds good.  Can you suggest some popular VN renting sites used by Vietnamese for apartment searching in HCMC
Thanks

You looking for a house or apartment.

Apartment In D1/D3  but only limited options as most of them are in D2/D7

Type in,Bán căn hộ,D1 it will bring up numerous sites, put in the area you want, size and price and do a search. You will need to be able to read Vietnamese as its all in VN.

And there should be a space after commas. hahaha

And hahaha should start with a capital after a full stop.

As stated before, try not to get off subject.

Try to find out what you need here: batdongsan.com.vn/english

or here   muabannhadat.vn/      but no english, except for googles

You can check this out: Muaban.com
For sale: http://muaban.com.vn/Bat-dong-san-Can-b … ho-35.html
For rent: http://muaban.com.vn/Bat-dong-san-Cho-t … ho-42.html
There's no English, but I think you can still understand the key information. The main concern is residence registration for foreigners.
Good luck!

I used Kelvin, found him on Craiglist. I got a nice 55 square meter 1 bedroom service apartment in Binh Thanh District  on Bui Dinh Tuy for 8,000,000 a month. I had heard good and bad things about him, but he did right by me. He did show me the best one last, so be patient.

People are looking for information, you should either give them that information or shut up. I for one don't want to hear your ego driven comments.

As if this person needs extra stress because they made a spelling error. Take your teachers hat off for a minute and help out instead of being critical.

Hi all,

I would like some help in renting cheap room - less than 3 million dong. I would like to stay min 3 months. and extend if possible.

I will be coming to vietnam in end November 2015

There are some vietnamese sites which advertise like...batdongsan.com.vn/cho-thue-nha-tro-phong-tro-tp-hcm

I would appreciate some help from locals for getting a room advertised in such sites.

Thanks in advance

Maurice Nathan

Housing Sgn, thanks for the reply.

If not possible at 3 million VND, i'm ready to pay a little more...up to 4 million..

I want a cheap room with basic kitchenette/sink for cooking.

Hope some vietnamese friends can help me.

Maurice

not sure if this was mentioned;  but another consideration when renting from someone who has not rented to expats... there is a bit of paperwork to do/register -- some viet landlords may want to rent to you but might give up when trying to get their side of the paperwork set up.

the problem is, if you are foreigner, the owner must make paper follow Vietnamese law ( maybe 7 million I guess ), if not you will be kicked out one day by police

Hi Mary,

I'm sure I can get rooms for 150-200 USD - not on muaban.net though but on other sites.

Even some hostel rooms are available in vietnam for about 7$-8$ per night

Yes, hostel is 5 usd,  my friend said that

This is such an outdated law,the police(mafia) wont change the law as they make a fortune from it.
