Hi!  My name is Kristy.  I am a caucasian American female married to a Tanzanian.  My husband would like us to relocate to Bahari Beach, outside Dar Es Salaam due to lack of work here in the US.  It looks beautiful...but I am scared!  Is it safe?  Would people there have a problem with interracial marriage?  What kind of food can you get from the grocery store?  This may sound silly, but what about shampoo~ is that hard to find?  My husband said he would want my son to go to the International School of Tanganyika~anybody know anything about that school?  I am full of questions and have been scouring the internet.  My family is very worried about safety for an American living in another country. Any advice is MUCH appreciated!  Thank you do much for your time!:)

Hi Kristy,

I can see the fear factor in your question to come and live in Tanzania, There are so many interracial couples living in Tanzania.
You can get anything and everything in Dar Es Salaam for Grocery and including your Shampoo :)
It is not advisable to travel alone during late nights.
I am not sure about the International School of Tanganyika but I will try to find it out for you.

Cheers

You can see about the school here in their website istafrica.com/
The school is one of the best schools.

Thank you for the info!  My husband has been away from Tanzania for 14 years and he said alot has changed.  He said he wasn't sure if I could find my beauty products there or not.  Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!  I really appreciate it!:)

Hi Kristy,

I have been living in Tanzania for quite a while now. Many of the kids from my neighborhood is studying in the same school you wanted info on. It is considered to be one of the best schools in Tanzania.

Anyway, I am sure you might have got more info regarding it from the school's website address provided by expattanzania.

Just as your husband remarked, Tanzania has changed a lot in the past few years. There are many good department stores and shopping centers which stock most of the stuff you will need.

As for shampoo and other cosmetic items, obviously, the range and brands won't be as extensive as in the US. But, you will get some pretty decent brands that are of good quality. Many such stuff from the Middle East and India are available in these shopping centers. So, you should do pretty fine on that count :)

The safety aspect is like in any other place in the world - as long as you don't take needless risks, there's nothing to worry. People are friendly. I am sure you are gonna find living in Tanzania to be an enjoyable experience overall.

All the best for the relocation :)

Cheers,
sweetheart
