Expat length of time

I'm new to the forums. Hopefully, someone could clarify a few things for me:

Does a person need to be living/working in a foreign country for a certain length of time to be considered an expat? For example, if I went to Indonesia for only a one month (paid) internship and then returned to my home country right after, would I be an expat while I'm there? It's just kind of unclear if there's a distinction between "travelling to another country to work temporarily" and "being an expat".

Hi KateChan,

Have a look here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expatriate

Okay, thanks. So since I'm not being sent to work there by another company, I wouldn't be considered an expat, is that correct?
