I am considering buying a new car in PR. I am having a hard time getting a straight answer on taxes charged. I know that there is a 25% excise tax payable. The question is do you have to pay the 7% sales tax as well. Dealers have told me yes and a tax professional told me no. I also was told that the new VAT would not apply, just the excise. Has anyone bought a car, and what taxes were actually paid?

I would say that the answer that your dealer gives you is the one that you should believe.
