Hi there. Everywhere in Abu Dhabi is fairly expat friendly. Depends if you are moving on your own/couple or if you have kids and where your work place will be.
Without kids apartment living probably near the beach is a great idea, along the Corniche or Raha Beach. With family look at areas like Mushrif, between the bridges, Khalifa City.
Abu Dhabi is a safe city you should not find extremist threats in other parts of the Middle East to be an issue.
