Requirements for healthcare providers to practice in Ecuador

I have been practicing Dental Hygiene for 22 yrs in the United States and have an active license here. Do these licenses transfer to Ecuador? I have heard there is a big demand for what I do. Dentists are terrible at Teeth cleaning and I have clients from all over the world who come to see me and cry about how bad cleanings are. I have even had celebrity clients.  I have been in independent practice. Can I put out a shingle in Ecuador?

Welcome to Expat.com Ecuador and the Cuenca Forum, Healer.

It's doubtful that an English-language dental certification from the U.S. would be directly transferable to Ecuador.

It's also doubtful that the Expats on the Cuenca Forum, including yours truly, can provide reliable answers to your questions.

I would recommend that you email experienced Quito attorney Sebastian Cordero at [email protected] with your questions.

Sebastian speaks excellent English, but I'd still advise that if you email him that you use a less colloquial phrase than "put out my shingle."

Although your license may not be transferable, you would be an excellent candidate for a professional-class residential visa allowing you to remain in EC permanently.  Sebastian or a non-attorney visa specialist can assist you in navigating the choppy visa waters.

Good luck in bringing your gifts to Ecuador.
