Police record required

hey I have heard that a pilice record is absolutely required if you want ro obtain a working permit but others have told me just simply renew ur travel visa every three months and it would be okay. they sid tgat the schools aren't requirig the police record but rather the govt. I was wondering if this is true or not becuase i am an american but living in south korea so unles the govt can mail it to me its going to be difficult. thanks

You need a "Justice Record" (non-criminal record) if you want to obtain a Work Permit.

The 'police record' is obtainable, in the USA, from your State police force. For a fee.

It has to be sent to VN where you will have to take it to the US Consulate:

U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City
4 Le Duan Boulevard
Ben Nghe Ward
District 1
Ho Chi Minh City    710110

Tel: + 84-8-3520-4200

to get it notarised as genuine. For a fee.

I was wondering if I could do this over the internet because I am currently living in south korea

Either have family / relative apply - they will need written permission from you OR contact your State Police by e-mail. You only need it after you arrive in VN - ONLY US Embassy/Consulates in VN can notarise it for VNese use.

I'd get the FBI background check if I were in Korea, since it appears to be easier to get fingerprinted there and it's a free service.  Here's the entire process that may seem familiar since you had to do it to get your working visa?

The FBI check would always be accepted, while the state check could easily be rejected.

I'd get spare fingerprint cards, since the background check is only good for 6 months and there's only one place in Vietnam to get printed.  I'm sure it's expensive too.

It just keeps getting better:

On September 7, 2014, CJIS installed a new IT system. As a result of this installation, we are experiencing delays in processing. Please be assured that each issue is being identified and resolved as quickly as possible, but at this time anticipated processing time for an Identity History Summary is approximately 14-16 weeks. Allow additional time for mail delivery.

Now it's my turn to thank you.....thanks!   I never would have thought of either option. I figured there was an official stamp, or something of that nature.  The consulate/Embassy refer us to an outside agency.

I've never had to get one from the states, because only a Vietnamese CRC was required, after 6 months in-country.

They were accepting the state BCs as of 3 months ago, but I'd still go with the FBI check.

is it possible to teach without having to obtaining a police recors. some schools I had hears arent too strict about.  poeple have told me to simply renew my travel visa after three months

The problem now is getting a renewal, the laws changed as of 2015

but my question is whether or not i would be needing a police record to work there.  and also how ambitiously do you check up on your diploma?

If you want a work permit, you will need a police check and yes they will check your diploma. If you just work for a low level language school it's not needed.

Your Diploma, just like your background check need to be notatarized and certified in the states....so if you are thinking of photoshopping a diploma you will have problems....

it sounds like what you really want ask is, 'can I work in VN' without a proper permit/papers.' The short answer is yes, but it is illegal. You or the school you work for can be fined. Also the schools will take advantage of you because you aren't legit....good luck ensuring that you get paid without a permit/contract.

What you say is correct in some cases, but there are many that work at schools without work permit and they still get paid.

Hi
I know that you have to have Criminal Record from US which need for doing work permit.
US consulate in HCM and Foreign Affairs will notarize your Criminal Record before you submit to Department Labor for work permit.
In Vietnam you also need Criminal Record and the cost is VND 200,000 and not difficult to get it.
Are you expatriate?
