They would probably be interested in employing you.  It is always easier to seek a Job personally while you are here. Firefighters here is strictly born-Austrians. other possible Jobs related to your education you must best know yourself...  Prerequisite for getting papers is to prove that your abilities are essential for the Company and that they cannot find a local Person to fill the Job. If you are lucky and a Company will go through with the work Permit procedure you can try to do file all papers right here. It will still take Ages. I know that the Company BELFOR does fire education seminars in English, that could be an angle Point for an application. But we are quite overrun with employment seeking People from the new EU countries, so don´t get your hopes too high. Why does your girlfriend not help you with your quest?
