Hi All!

as expats we are always trying to do new things and explore different sides of our characters, one of those different sides with me happened to be in love with stand up comedy :P

i started first in 2012 at an open mic show and have since tried it 4 times total,

what have you done as an expat that was outside your comfort zone? was it captured on video?

Gordon Barlow

Interesting, Ayman. Terrible acoustics on your videos, I have to say. They made it hard to distinguish what you were saying, much of the time. But of course you deserve the heartiest of congratulations for going outside your comfort zone, not only in your second-language (if second it is) but also in the idiom (humour) of a foreign audience. I wish you well. I have never tried anything nearly as adventurous - and am far too old to try now!

In Kuwait many years ago (oh, all right, fifty years ago, if you must know...), I was interviewed on the local radio station, in English, and rather put my foot in it by not being aware of the local cultural prejudices. I blogged about the incident in January 2013 - "The Friends of Frank Sinatra", in the Archives. The title was chosen because it was my choice of Frank Sinatra as my favourite singer that caused a minor kerfuffle. Sinatra, it transpired, had some Jewish friends, and the station did not approve of him or his music, or his friends!

I've never been captured on camera (That I'm aware of) whilst on stage, but I tend to get dragged up a lot and, as a massive extrovert show off, I love doing it.
I used to get on radio a lot as well, both in England and in Java, but not for a while now.
