Cost of living (and other things) in India

I'm thinking about moving to India for six months. Any advice about the minimum amount of money needed per month and other general advice would be helpful.

How much would I expect to pay for accommodation etc

Am thinking mostly of Southern India - Goa and Pndicherry appeal

Accommodation :- 1000Rs. to 10000 (and More... Depends on Hotel or Guest house you chose )/Day

If you rent a house it may go 8000 to 20000 Rs. / Month Depends on Place
visit 99acre.com or magicbricks.com for details

Food 100 to 1000 Rs. per day per person .

Travel 2000 Rs.

An average 30000 - 40000 Rs. you may Spend Decent Middle class Life in India.

Hello,

As Mr. Ansh said, its correct you can survive very well with 25K to 35 K INR.

Feel free to ask more question.

Parth Shah

Thanks for reply. How safe for independent travellers.

Thinking New Delhi or Mumbay, Goa, Pondicherry.

Thanks

Mostly its safe if you visit public places... Dont travel alone at night... Be careful of cheaters as many Rickshaw or taxi drivers can cheat you by taking more of charge... Be safe... Have a happy journey

the cost of living in India depends upon where you stay... In a country as large as India the cost of living varies considerably from place to place. However, it comes as a surprise to many new arrivals that the cost of expat life in major Indian cities such as Mumbai and Delhi is actually quite expensive
Luckily, expats living in India are among the most well paid globally and those who can negotiate a lucrative relocation package for themselves will be able to afford additional luxuries that they wouldnt be accustomed to at home such as maid services, chauffeurs and the Indian tradition of hot, home-cooked lunches delivered to the office.

Paying for accommodation is likely to be an expat's biggest expense when moving to India.. metropolitan cities are very expensive places, but you can aso find all types of accomadation depending on ur need from luxury to budget..
average will be 3000 to 60000 rs.. you can try www.sulekha.com , magicbricks.com, Housing.com etc to find suitable accomadation

The cost of entertainment and eating out in India will vary according to an expats personal tastes and preferences. It is possible to eat out inexpensively in India, especially if expats are open-minded and interested in trying the local cuisines.. you can have very nice food for less 500 a day and even you can spend 5000 also.. try to find info from the locals about where to find cheap and good quality food...
