Hi there,

I am a 25 year old scottish engineer who is shortly relocating to San Antonio.

I would love mt girlfriend to come with me but she wants to find more out about the place, people and jobs before coming over.

Is there a big british expat community there? Do lots of expat couples socialise together and also what job opportunites are there for her? She is 23 and will be continuing her studies distance learning from the states.

Any feed back at all would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

The System

Hello Des,

I'm in San Antonio. I'm an expat who lived in Europe for seven years and now back home in San Antonio. San Antonio is a mixed group of people from all over the world. I'm sure there are expat's who meet, however there are local mixers that professionals get together at in local coffee shops and resturants. Send me your e-mail and I'll send you the locations of the local networking meetings in town. The people here are friendly and welcoming. The traffic will take some time getting used to. I would recommend you get a place to live some where on the north side of the city and perhaps in a local town like Boerne, Castroville (my town), New Braunfels or Bulverde. These towns have a more European culture. I have a friend who works with international students and I will ask him if knows of any British expat communities.

When you get to town I would like to meet you and welcome you to our wonderful city. How long will your live here. Where are you going to work?

I traveled to Scotland several times and love the friendly people I met in your country. You may find San Antonio a bit of a culture shock. The weather is hot and the city is rather big compared to Edinburgh.

What is your girlfriend studying?
Hope you move goes well and look forward to meeting you.

Cheers,

Fernando

i have lived here for many years and you rarely find people from outside of texas. I dont know where this guy is finding them. But texans dont take kindly to people from out of state

Im a native Texan and i can say we are the friendliest people in America! We adore people from the UK. In fact, it may get on your nerves that every time some one here hears your accent they will want to talk your head off!! :))

i'm an international who lived in San Antonio for 3 and half years. it's really great city to live in. unfortunately i haven't met a single British person while my stay over there. however, you will find a lot of Europeans in the city especially around this time of the year and most of them are Eastern European students who come to earn some money to complete their education in their home country. i only could find them in UT Health Science center at the park, or in Hookah shops.

i hope you enjoy your stay in the city :)
