Registering a car in Norway

Hi,

I have been all around internet and have not found enough information yet. I am in search of information regarding registering a car in Norway, paying off taxes and getting Norwegian licence plates. Some information I got was that It could cost 105% of the car value, so if you buy a used car for 7000 euros abroad and want to register It in Norway that car would cost you around 15 000 euros. Is this true and can anyone here guide me to some English sites where you can calculate these prices depending on the make or the car, weight, power etc. I would be very thankful for any information.

Thanks!

did you check this link? It's probably got some basics covered in English:

we looked into importing a several years old A3 from Germany and it was indeed true that the customs&registration fees were equivalent to purchasing the same car in Germany all over again. It went back to Germany and we're currently carless while waiting for the delivery of an e-car.

I wouldn't recommend importing a car. Everyone that I know who has looked into it has found it's far too expensive. The government really doesn't want you to import a car. Or even have a car judging by the taxes they levy.

Hei!!! Have you tried the website : toll.no?  Here is the link on import of cars :)http://www.toll.no/templates_TAD/Topic. … anguage=en

Hope this helps!

I looked into this when I first moved here from the UK.

I saw a LHD car in the UK for 500 GBP a 2000 year Mazda 5 diesel. To import the car into Norway would have cost me about 4000 GBP, the costs vary depending on engine emission but it's not worth it. I bought a car here for 20000 NOK including registration about 4 times the cars value in the UK but no hassle and still a lot cheaper than importing.
