Success Story (Employment)

Out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone knows of someone who had successfully obtained a working permit for an unskilled job in Belize during the first few months of their visit.

It does seem too good to be true, but if I felt that I had a reasonable shot at it, I might abandon my university studies, leave my Canadian Heritage behind, and embrace Belize for all of its worth (natural beauty, culture, people, etc.).

After all, you only live once, right?

I am afraid, Willow, that you are dreaming. And not being practical: unskilled jobs pay minimum wage (which in Belize is around BZ$ 20 - $25 a day, while a permit costs BZ$ 1000.
So, how long would you have to work just to cover the cost of the permit?
I'd say, finish your studies and then volunteer - as a professional - in Belize for a while to learn employers and be hired. They DO need professionals - even though the government does not always want to acknowledge that and makes list of professions, where foreigners should not bother to apply.
And you rhink they'll give permits to unskilled
job seekers?
