They say I need a letter from my bank, but what information is needed on the letter?

Welcome to the forums. Generally you need a letter saying you are a client in good standing for xxx years and if you have multiple accounts I would say so. It is really quite a generic letter!

Thank you. I will get the letter. I guess have to wait until my next trip to open a account.

They may accept an emailed letter if you are already here and can get it printed, not sure. But for sure you can't open the account from there.

You need to be here to open accounts. They also my require someone to sign for you (vouch for you) and that person needs to have a Dominican Cedula.
