French Student Visa Question

Hi,

I am an U.S. citizen. I would like to go study French in Paris for about 5-6 months. I would like to take the 9 hour/week program at Alliance Francaise but I don't know if that makes me eligible for a student visa? Should I take the 20 hour/week program? I want to have time to travel to other countries in Europe!

I have tried contacting CampusFrance to no avail and the person at the Consulate told me to contact Campus France.

Any former students out there?!
