Hi everyone,

Today I am going to reveal some interesting ideas and aspects of Egyptian Arabic and the equivalent English to it.

- "خلع" [khala'] : ditched  .......... KHALA' MEN HADD = ditched someone

- some interesting words like "فاضي" [fadi] = empty & blank & dead  [FADIA is the feminine adj.]
   ....... we say
SANDOO' FADI = empty box .....
            safha FADI(A) = blank sheet ....
           BATTARRIA FADI(A) = dead battery

I hope everyone learned something. and your comments will be appreciated to bring some more. smile.png

I may add that ''Fadi" in another context means "Free"  smile.png
eg. Are you "Fadi/Fadia" (m/f respectively) today?? meaning Are you "Free" today??
Well this was just a thought coz I got some "Fadi" time big_smile.png

More members could add to the thread more widely-used slang words in Cairo smile.png

Hi everyone,

new word of today is : KAN (pronounced like CAN)

In arabic we use KAN to say "was" for masculine [KANET] feminine]
example >>>>> HWA KAN HENA = he was here

in English : we say KAN to talk about probability or capability
example >>>>> You can go. / I can do it.
