anyone else find it ironic that this guy is asking this question on a forum that wouldn't exist if it weren't for the internet?

Yes, too much social problem and crime. Internet teaches people how to do crime professionally:)

stumpy

The internet is a very useful tool if used correctly.
However, in today's societal structure, and very little policing from parents, kids spend lots more time online than I think is necessary or healthy. with the advent of Facebook, twitter, You tube, kids spend a lot of time online.

ECS

you guys are welcome to sign off from the internet if you like, but I'd rather not go back to the days when you could only book travel through a travel agent, and calling family members overseas cost dollars per minute.

Internet is not good for your health.  :D

The good or bad depends on the user.
I use it to educate myself; some use it to spread child porn.
The fools, perverts and generally nasty people will always corrupt where they can but we all have the choice to stay away from the rubbish.

Internet is not mentally harmful for me.. but physically!!!

I grab only the best part of the net and avoid the worst. So it can not harm my mentality and I am not a slave of said porn stuff. I have met very decent friends from different parts of the world and that is the best thing I acquired from the net access.
But when I start net I have no 'break' and that is my weakness so physically using a computer for a long time is bad for my eyes and even my right wrist is giving pain for using mouse.  :(

Totally agree with you

Electricity has done more harm than good.
Mobility too, I guess. Not to mention the enlightenment, script, metalworking, building technology and stone tools.
Yes, we should go back and live without that!
(Really?)

Beppi,

What is the actual ratio? :/

First of all Welcome to Expat.com.

Everything in excess is always harmful so you cant say more harm then good...there is balancing of nature good vs bad...if no bad then no one can realize the good part , now its depend on person how he/she can increase the good part rather then bad one...so it all depends on users how they use it...

Anil

Hi there,
I just wanted to challenge the author of the thread.
No numbers = useless talk.

What a nice place this world would be without people saying unverified affirmations ...
