Human resources roles Mauritius

Hi,

I am currently a HR Manager in Australia working for a large financial services organization and seeking role opportunities in Mauritius. I have extensive and broad HR experience, particularly in the area of mergers and acquisitions. Is anybody in this forum able to advise of career opportunities in the HR field and also the likelihood of picking up an expat contract? Unfortunately, I have only a limited understanding of French.

Many thanks in advance for your advice!

Hi Ali157,

I suggest you to have a look to these two articles below, it may help you in your research :

- Finding a job in Mauritius

- Work market in Mauritius

Being a Mauritian, i can say that there are some opportunities in HR fields but it depends, some vacancies apply to expats and some only to locals. :)

Thank you,

Priscilla

Hi there,

I don't want to be too negative but the chances of getting HR work as an expat in Mauritius are very slim.  I am Australian, a HR Professional with 20+ years experience in Australia and Africa in the mining industry.  Mauritius is a fantastic base for me but my work is international. You would definitely need fluent french to work with a Mauritian company and salaries here are just a fraction of what you would get in Australia. On a work permit you might expect to be paid about MUR60,000 per month - about US$2,000 per month.

Just my opinion, if someone else has a different view that is great.

Good luck.

Hi heyjude, thanks for the response! I am also realistic of the opportunities in HR in Mauritius and am willing to diversify into other management areas if possible - however wanted to try and stay in my field of expertise first. If you have any ideas or contacts you could point me towards it would be most appreciated- there is very little online information about HR in Mauritius. Thanks again!

Hi Ali,

Sorry, I really do not have contacts in Mauritius that can help with work.  Any management job will require a good degree of French proficiency and as already mentioned you would need to be willing to work for a relatively low salary.  You need to think about what skills you can offer that a Mauritian citizen cannot, if you have a very unique or specialised skill you could try approaching companies that may need that skill directly.

If you have not already done so you could come to Mauritius on a tourist visa and take a look around and scout for potential opportunities.

Good luck.
