Hello. My name is Rob. I am in the process of moving to the UAE in the next month or so. I have so many questions about lifestyles in the UAE. I am single and have a great social network here in the states. I am looking forward to starting my new career in the UAE, but I am a little apprehensive about moving to the Al Ain area. I hear that it is not the best for a single guy. I am wondering if openly dating is socially accepible or am I going to have to keep it hidden? I would like to know if there is even a night-life in Al Ain? Not that I would flaunt my single lifestyle, but I would like to venture out and see what the UAE has to offer as far as perspective dating, ect.. Any info on this issue and also any info that you feel a newby to the UAE should know would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I hope this finds you doing great. Until then.. Rob

Hi Rob,

My reply is too late. I guess, you are already here in Al Ain.

Al Ain is very nice. It is a very calm place. It is quite open here compared to the other place in UAE. You can date as much as you can(why not?). There are also some nice girls that you could find here (but not as much as in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Here, you find a lot of expat ladies working as teacher, nurse and saleslady or in Hotel. With regards to the nightlife, there are 3 bars/ pub I know here. It Is in Intercon, Hilton and Rotana Hotels. I saw also one pub in Mercure Hotel in Jebel Hafeet....but it is nice as the enviroment is mostly local guys.

Hope I have answered your queries. Good luck!

Hi Rob, I'm Meriem. I'm here for 4 months now in Al Ain, it's like the suburb of the capital Abu Dhabi. Yes, there's a night life here like disco especially on Thursday night, they love pool parties here in hotels. The week end begins very early in the week, people begin to go out from thursday night to saturday night. Don't believe that the local guys don't flirt or whatsoever, they're crazy when they're seeing a girl with a sexy top, they can't resist coming closer and giving her their phone numbers (even in the street in the middle of the day, they don't care who's gonna watch!!!!). Yes, the police is everywhere and it's better if you planned to drink to stay in the hotel for that night or they'll send you in jail if they catch you drunk. Well, my english is not perfect but I hope you'll understand what I wrote. Enjoy the last month you're spending now in the States! Bye

Oh well! we didn't see any of you on the 29th! :(
Probably is too far for you to come to Dubai just for one evening! So I'd suggest you to organize meetups in Al Ain: its fun and a nice way to make acquaintances.
When it's cooler outside, you could also organize discovery trips in the region which is very nice! Why not!
Cheers

Hi PrincessMia,
My family is moving to R.A.K. this week-end and once I'm completely settled, I'll try to do same there.
In cooler times we could then organize a huge meet-up excursion or whatever between the various groups of UAE.
Woaw I'm already looking forward to it!

Hello Ajjad, The area around Al Ain is very nice. We went to that side of UAE on camping 3 years ago... nice places and beautiful sites to visit.
It also depends on what are your preferred leisure activities!
Cheers

Hi Rob! You must be well settled in Al Ain now? Let me know if you need info on living here - I've been here for 8 years! I can help you with what there is to do and see not only in AA, but also AD and Dubai as well. If you are I to music, there's a great Jazz Festival (it's not really jazz, they have all sorts of great music represented) in Doobs (my name for Dubai!) every Jan/Feb and lots of other cool things to do and places to see. So contact me if you'd like some advice.
Cheers,
Collette.

Hi Rob...I will be moving to Al Ain at the end of July so I was curious what you have discovered about the area.  My pre-employment visit is next week but I would like to gather as much info as I can. I will be going over alone and won't know a soul...exciting but scary at the same time.  I have been living in sleepy Vermont for the last year and before that was in a N. Central Massachusetts town that was just as sleepy.  I don't need wild and crazy like Dubai but I don't want to be bored either.

Thanks...Kym

Hi could anyone help me with local knowledge of schools for my year 6 and 5 children in Al Ain?
Got places for Al Ain international and Al Ain English speaking.
Which is the better and why? Is there anything better I have missed?
