Hi~!
I'm seriously curious about what's Expat.com for, if everyone can join even though their not EXPATS. What's the meaning of "expatriate"? I believed tons of them hasn't got a clue.  Here are some explanation for those who're not sure what they are.

EXPATRIATE meaning:-
- a person who lives outside their native country.
- Emigrant
- Live aboard
- Non-native
- Foreigner

Or ie- some native people, who's married to a foreign spouse.

If still not sure about it, please google it.
Thank you. :)

Hi,

In my humble opinion, Expat.com is a forum for both expats and locals to communicate, to link up through our common interests, and to share our knowledge and experiences.  If it weren't for the locals giving us expats some good and very much needed advice at times, we would probably be one very confused group!  Ha!  In all seriousness, I am very grateful for the opportunity to chat and learn from both.  :)

I agree with CourtinUSVI Without local input this forum would be a lot less informative and I am also grateful for the opportunity to chat and learn from them as well.

Hi viviantan,

Expat.com was humbly created a few years ago, by expats, for expats.

But of course, locals are welcome to participate. As an expat, I am sure you'll be interested in learning from our Mauritians friends too :)

Hello Viviantan, in case you didn't know some people are both expats and locals. Many Maurtians emigrated, got another nationality and come back to their native country, this means they have two countries

Poor Vivian seems to be somehow misunderstood :(

Since she's not around to respond yet I can't help but clarify the post was sent after she's been bombarded with private messages from locals who seem to think this is a dating site.

So, I think it's fair to say although this site is destined for expats and locals, some people are completely missing its purpose.

Thank you, Mr & Mrs Murphy.........

Hi,

If the concern was being inundated with dating messages, then why not actually write a post specific to that concern?  I bet the answers would have been a lot more helpful!

Anyway, good luck with that issue.  It can be a bit annoying, huh?  I've found just ignoring unwanted messages of this nature does the trick.  I imagine Julian can also help you with this issue as I know he's sent reminders/warnings to people who are not following the guidelines for using Expat.com.

Good luck and have a great week!  :)
