Qatar - Questions on living there

My friend's nephew is considering a job in Qatar, but we know nothing about neighborhoods, costs of living, safety, transit, blah blah blah.

He is a new grad considering a role in sales. We have the expected salary ranges in Qatar, but what should we advise relative to the following:
1 - He would need to rent a room, what neighborhoods are safe/popular for a young person?
2 - How is public transport, or will he need money for a car right away?
3 - what should he expect relative to groceries, phone, transportation, shopping, cost of living?
4 - what does the support system look like?  He does speak arabic and plays soccer, so are there means for a guy to stay out of trouble?

Thank you for your help.

1 - He would need to rent a room, what neighborhoods are safe/popular for a young person? (housing here is very expensive)
2 - How is public transport, or will he need money for a car right away?  (the present condition of public transport is not yet stable-better to have own car as my opinion I have been here for almost 3 years)
3 - what should he expect relative to groceries, phone, transportation, shopping, cost of living? (the cost now of these things are not so high  you just need to be smart in going cheapest but high quality supermarkets)
4 - what does the support system look like?  He does speak arabic and plays soccer, so are there means for a guy to stay out of trouble? (If he can speak Arabic then well and good he can search for a group or leisure time like looking for buddy that he needs to be carefully selected :)

Thank you for your help.

Message me if how much is his offer for me to assess also if his stay will be worth

Thanks and Regards,

Armand

Doha is a pretty safe place - with no real 'problem' areas like other cities often have. Cost of living will vary depending on the location however - try dubizzle or propertyfinder for an idea of cost.

2 - How is public transport, or will he need money for a car right away?
Public transport can be hit and miss - but taxis are plentiful and as it costs about QR50 to go from one end of Doha to the other it isn't really that expensive to get around

3 - what should he expect relative to groceries, phone, transportation, shopping, cost of living?
Depends what he eats and drinks! You can do it cheaply or you can eat out/buy imported and spend quite a lot. Phone plans you can check out online - the main carrier is ooredoo. transport see above - a rental car will set you back about QR2000 a month.

4 - what does the support system look like?  He does speak arabic and plays soccer, so are there means for a guy to stay out of trouble?
Plenty of things to do in Doha, if he picks up a marhaba book when he gets here it gives contact details for all sort of activities

Thank you for your help.
