Expats get together Glasgow Sunday 15th September

Once a month we meet to discover a new activity or a new part of Glasgow.

This month we are going to The Doocot Café and Bar.

It is located in The Lighthouse, the Scottish National Centre for Design and Architecture, which has a great design shop, this lovely Café and a beautiful panoramic view of Glasgow.

The Lighthouse hosts temporary and permanent exhibitions and also conferences, talks and all kind of events. The building itself was designed by the most famous Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and has been the offices of the Glasgow Herald newspaper.

The Lighthouse website describes the Doocot Café:

"Situated on level five of The Lighthouse, the Doocot Café Bar offers a selection of snacks and light bites including sandwiches, baked potatoes and paninis . Daily specials are also available along with home baking and pastries and an extensive range of coffee and tea.

Open Monday to Saturday 10.30am to 4.30pm and from 12.00pm to 4.30pm on Sundays, the Doocot is the perfect pit stop to grab a coffee or a bite to eat while you are in the city centre.

A children's menu and takeaway menu are also available."

Out of curiosity I asked by email the manager of the Doocot Café why this name.

She replied:

"Originally the lighthouse was the Glasgow Standard Building where the evening newspapers were printed.

The doocot (bird house) gets its name as originally news mainly football and racing results came in by carrier pigeon strange but true"

:)

That's this Sunday ;)
