Hello all,

I am sure some of you have seen me posting in here helping out wherever I can.

I myself now need a bit of help.  I would like to meet some of the expats (any age) that live here in Quito.  I just want to get to know the people in the city I live in.

I currently know mostly Ecuadorian's and it would be nice to speak some English, watch some football (compliments of my NFL Sunday Ticket package I am buying) or do other things "Gringo".

Hopefully some of you out there feel the same way.

I should be there in plenty of time for the Super Bowl.

Themiddleoftheworld

Who do you have for the Superbowl Bob?

Also, it looks like most of the Quito Expats want to keep to themselves..  Tisk Tisk....

Hey Mike,

Just a thought... did you ever think that most of the expats are maybe double your age....(lol)

Go Black and Gold (Steelers)!!!!!!!!!!

I do understand they are mostly double my age.  I know some people my age in Quito but I like to talk to people older and more experienced than myself too.  Thats how I learn and stay ahead of the curve.

But if everyone wants to hide in their shell thats fine too.  Stay "safe".

I'm not sure that we'll get along, since to the extent I care, I'm a Cowboys fan. :)

But I'm also a big RG3 fan.

Actually, I'm more interested in college football -- especially my ASU Sun Devils.

And when I get there, I'll probably mainly follow soccer. Haven't picked a team yet, but maybe you can advise me -- Deportivo Quito?

Oh my goodness! Redskins fans, and Steelers fans!!
What is wrong with you people.
Go Ravens!!!

Get into soccer and you will have tons of Ecuadorian friends.

I just can't get into soccer at all myself. The only soccer I ever watch is the USA in the Olympics. I say, Go Bengals

In the eight grade we played soccer for two weeks in gym class.  Two minutes into the first class, the ball fell from the sky into a group of about 10 of us and in the ensuing melee, two legs were broken.

Fortunately, mine wasn't one of 'em.  However, the event did dampen my "burgeoning" interest in the sport.

Here in Soccer City, US of A [Go Timbers!!!!] I still have yet to catch a game, but look forward to figuring out the rules so it doesn't look like my eight grade class again ...  and so I can root for my new "team" without sounding like a bimbo.

PS  Go Cubbies!!!!

PPS  Hey, they might as well play football [or soccer] ...

PPPS  If I were already in Quito, we would have probably hoisted a frosty by now ...

The only soccer game I ever saw was in Quito (oddly, teargas was part of that experience too). Still don't know all of the rules but one thing I did learn was that when the game clock runs out the game is not really over like in American football. When the game clock runs out the refs huddle and decide how much more time is really left.

Ray,

I actually do follow Soccer here.  I can see the stadium from my window.  Haven't picked a team yet but all my Ecuadorian friends are swaying me towards Barcelona or Liga Quito.

Bob,

I have no problem with Cowboy fans, especially those who stick it out during the tough times and don't abandon their team.  Cowboys have a rich history if winning, but Tony Romo is not the answer there.  Yes when the Skins and Cowboys play we are mortal enemies but when it is all over we are just friends drinking beer. =)

Turns out there's a few American's in my building also.  I've got an Eagles fan who will be coming to my house to watch the Eagles Vs. Skins game on Monday night.

Already a friend of Mike's, I share his desire to meet other expats here. I've been here almost 4 months and it is VERY lonely here - and I speak Spanish and am married to an Ecuadorian with a lovely family. But it's not the same - I need to be around sometimes people with shared experiences, cultures, backgrounds, world-views, and language. Please don't misunderstand. I decided to become part of a new culture and to adapt to it, and I'm doing that - It's just that sometimes it would be nice to ....ummm...well, I'll call it "visiting the old home," because that' what it would feel like.

Unlike Quenca there does not seem to be any centralized expat community here in Quito, which makes it hard. And for a number of reasons Internations (no criticism implied) the other get-together group is just not for me.

So if there is anything I can do to facilitate this please call on me. If there are any expats who just want to have a cup of coffee I'd love to.

This is surprising. Don't live in Quito, or Ecuador for that matter, but is there not some local places in Quito that tend to be hang outs for expats? Not talking about touristy areas where only the tourists go, but one would think there would be a few small quiet places that are popular with the local expats. Am I completely off in that assumption?

GringoBueno

I'm in Quito. I'll send you a message or something.

Hello,

I'm new to Quito and looking for some expats as well. I speak limited Spanish, so my inability to converse has been a *bit* frustrating. I'd be down to watch some football on Sundays. I'm from Pittsburgh, but I enjoy watching any game.

Take care,
Kevin

I arrived in Quito on 10/8 and I'm looking to meet up with expats (of any age).

I'm not legally allowed to work yet and thus have a lot of extra time on my hands. Also, I'm currently staying with my Ecuadorian husband's family and would love to have some down time with fellow gringos.

This is turning into a pseudo-nfl thread.
So, I ask the obvious;
Where can I watch Josh Freeman live on Sundays in Quito?
