For myself, I go to nearby coffee shops in Al-Khobar. Most of them show premium league on Al-Jazeera channel. Al-Jazeera bought TV rights for premium league in Middle East:

Coffee shop environment is very hyper since Saudis are crazy (without violence of course) about football and mostly they are die-hard fans of a certain team for life. However, there are two disadvantages of going to coffee shops. First, although Al-jazeera have English commentator, coffee shops managers always show the matches with Arabic commentators. Secondly, not all coffee shops stay open past midnight.
I'm a die hard fan of international soccer and basically schedule my life around World Cup every four years. Although I enjoyed the games in 2010, I have to admit that I truly missed the commentary since I didn't understand what was being said (Arabic!).
try saudi premier league this time. it begins 23 august i guess

If you have good internet connection, you can watch many international leagues on Al-Jazeera for smallish monthly subscription. check out this link: http://www.en.aljazeerasport.tv/Schedule
Select "football" and "Barclays Premier League". you can see that all commentators are English and you can watch it on HD too (Totally worth it). For subscription info see this link:

Invite friends over. Don't forget potato chips and enjoy.

I actually thought you'd zero in on "football" as every American do
thanks aman. any coffee shops in particular you would recommend?
and thank alliecat too, my internet's a bit crappy at the mo but those links will be useful when i move to my new apartment.
Actually I never have liked American football. But European 'footie'? Love it. It's so skillful on every level. I got hooked in '94, when World Cup was in the USA.
And what's not to like about hot guys in shorts?
LOL I put those links
ps
i'll be sure to invite you round alliecat

They are good links, I agree! Trying to add additional cable channels where I live is a nightmare so this could be the solution.

Yeah but he wanted the opportunity to invite me around

Where do you live? You don't want to drive across town to watch a game every time. and NO, Alliecat, this is NOT a hint

I do my best
Welcome to EB, where we not only share information but we also joke around in an attempt to remain sane!
Back to the main topic. There are plenty of coffee shops around Khobar. However, you may not see expat there. I'll try to find you a place where you can see matches on an individual TV.
that would be great aman, thank you.
i just arrived here last week so i haven't gotten to know the place well enough yet, and i haven't noticed any coffee shops with tv's.
it sucked not being able to watch any football today, especially as it was the first day of the season.
I'm actually not well familiarized with Khobar since I don't own a car However I'm doing my best searching in Arabic Forums.
yeah, i know the feeling!
From searching the web, I actually believe I have found the best place to watch games in Khobar.
The place is called "League Sports Café". You can see the map from here:

Edit: this map in not correct. check greenirish recent comments
They have section for families and another one for singles. check this link for their internal design and seating. Warning, it's in Arabic http://travel.maktoob.com/vb/travel633574/
You're welcome in advance
well done aman, that sounds like a great find!
thank you

Don't thank him--thank ME!
greenirish, If you'll go there, take a clear picture of their food menu and give us your review.
Alliecat, stay away from here. It's my time to shine
Die hard Manchester United fan is here !!!!!

just back from watching english premier league football at league cafe.
i can confirm that it does exist and that it's a good place to watch the soccer. very modern and comfortable and good food too, prices range from around SR 30-45 in general for most items (burgers, pizza, wraps, soup, etc).
however, the link above is not accurate for location. it's at the corniche opposite the mercure hotel.
there will be more matches on next week, hope to see some of you there!
