Oops, I did something stupid? Visa whoops

So today was the last day that my 3 month multiple entry was valid.  I got it to a travel agent here in Phu My Hung this morning to renew it.  She said it wouldn't be a problem, though I should have done it yesterday.  Unfortunately I got delayed flying out of Da Nang and didn't make it back to Ho Chi Minh until way late at night.

So no big deal, not to worried about the renewal.

The issue is my landlord here in Phu My Hung is freaking out because the police keep calling her about my visa.  She is telling me I'm probably going to have to pay a 10 million dong fine because the registration lapsed due to my issues with the visa.  That sounds ridiculous to me.

This won't be resolved until Monday.  Normally when the police knock on the doors in our apartment building for a "police check", I just don't answer.  I'm wondering if I should just keep with that policy until I have a visa in hand.  I'm assuming there won't be a gap in dates.

Ideas?

The landlord is telling you lies, I would say the landlord is trying to make a quick buck. Immigration usually give you a few days grace for visas, once you have it back next week it will be fine. Dont. Trust VN landlords, a lot of them try and make a few extra bucks from telling lies.

Heard similar from a few people - and it always was the landlord. Police did not know about.

The landlord is a liar then. He should tell her he already spoke to the police already and see what lie she comes up with next?proud.gif

When do the immigration police or the local police "keep calling" anyone?  And when do they fine any landlord 10 million?  Maybe 100,000 but 10 million?  Bah.

By the way, how much is the travel agency charging you to renew your visa?  After I learned the process, I stopped using an agency and did it on my own and saved a lot of money.

Also you can renew your visa anywhere that has an immigration office...this includes Da Nang.

...that would have been if you had given your landlord 10 million before you posted on here.  So far, you did the wise thing by checking with other expats.

Thanks for the responses guys, I figured something was fishy.  I told them I wasn't paying any 10 million dong fine and then they told me they could bribe the police for 3 million.  I said no to that too.  Canh sat isn't kicking my door in, so I can only assume they were taking the lapsed visa as an opportunity to try to cash in.

$125 for a 3 month multiple entry.

I learned afterwards I could go do it myself, so next time.  Live and learn.
