Drivers License conversion

I have a Singapore drivers license and would like to convert to Malaysian DL.

I gave the application form, my passport, Singapore DL and a photo to a runner and he came back at the end of the day and said he couldn't do it, that he needed a letter of endorsement.

Anyone know whether such a letter is really necessary and what that letter is (and where I can get one).  The SG embassy said they don't make those letters.

Help?

There are new processes now which started this year. They centre around proving the Licence is not a forgery. For the UK, the British Embassy cannot provide endorsement letters as they do not control Driving Licences.  We have to get proof of authenticity from the Driver Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA)in the UK.  Perhaps the Singapore equivalent can advise you and provide the service.

Hi
I can tell you from my experience of converting my Indian License to Malaysian..! I had to get a letter from my employer and had to get my Indian license endorsed by my embassy here in KL.
I think its the best if you check with their website..

You can use your driving license as long it is still valid in malaysia.

And what about the international license, valid for one year is it acceptable. Though I read on the net that it is only for the first three months and the traffic officer can give you a ticket..?.

I converted yesterday my Egyptian driving license to Malaysian, after obtaining a translation of the license from the Egyptian embassy.
I submitted the embassy translation along with a photo, copy of passport and visa and rm 80, for two years.

However, with regret that my renewed driving license in Egypt is dated this year, and there is no indication that it is a renewal and not new issuance, so I was given a P license for two years?,,,,

International Licence is only valid for 3 months.  National Licences the same.

The process has changed this year.  It is necessary to get the national licence endorsed to prove that it is not a fake.  This usually takes place at the vehicle licensing centre (in your home country) or the embassy.  Thereafter the application is straight forward.

Thanks, that would confirm what I read. Many tks again!

Information is varied and misleading even on the JPJ site:

The 1 year validity of an international licence is for Malaysians planning to drive abroad.
