Places to visit in Lecce

Hi,

For the ones living in Lecce, what would you suggest to discover the region?

When you have friends or family visiting you, where do you go with them? What are the must-see places in Lecce, the tourist sites?

How to visit the region in an original way? Any unusual or unknown place to recommend?

What would you suggest for a couple of days of for a week of holidays in Lecce?

Thank you in advance for participating ;)

Julie

I must say a weekend let you only have a walk in the city... Lecce province (also known as SALENTO) it's pretty rich of places of relevance to be seen! From monuments, history, baroque, lovely food and well known wine, the fabulous “rocky” Adriatic seaside and the amazing “sandy” Ionian seaside, the tip of the “heel” Santa Maria di Leuca (finibus terrae), Otranto with thousand of things to visit (the 800 hundred martyrs cathedral, the “punta palascia” lighthouse, the colourful bauxite cave –artificial lake- and more), Gallipoli for it's night life, discos and dancing on to the beach at the moonlight... Believe me, I can carry on for ages! In this time of the year there are folk feasts (known as “sagre”) all over the place (you'll enjoy folk music and most of the time fireworks) to celebrate any sort of thing: wine, beer, celery, pork meat, hot peppers... and by the way I would love to invite you all to "sagra del peperoncino piccante" on September the 1th and I'll be there! If is there any other or personal question I'll be pleased to reply and to help out guiding to your trip in SALENTO, even in private; I can give you my mobile number then.

That I would recommend you is to get a car... transports aren't great... it is a shame but take it as an advice! It is not well connected! A car doesn't let you waste half day and is the only way to visit “unusual places”!

Please, click on to the link above, zoom in, see the pictures and tell us what you think!

Kind regards to all visitors!

@ nderello -> Thank you for your contribution :thanks:

I love this site, so, it's a pleasure! Anyway as I mantioned previously an event called "festa del peperoncino" (hot peppers feast, with spicy food, beer, good local wine, local farmers exhibiting their spicy products and local artisans showing their gift ideas, orchestral and folk music and a "eating hottest pepper" competition) I want to invite anyone who'll be able to reach the place, it also worth a short trip around the location to look at the town centre.... It will start from 19.30. For any other advice I'll be pleased to reply! Thanks by now and I'll see you there!

Do not miss this, you'll have fun!
