Living in Scotland – Continued

As we settle in to our life in Scotland, it is natural to make comparisons to other places we have lived. It is fair to say that Scotland compares favorably with all the countries where we have lived as http://6Monthers.com - living in a new country every six months.

To Byaboona:
I am not an expert on how you would go about getting a work visa in the UK, but that is what you would need to do in order to legally remain in the country. Because the UK has a universal health care system, they will not just allow anyone come in and stay without first proving they have their own health insurance. Rightfully, they do not wish to assume the financial responsibility for the health of non-citizens.

The best way I can think of right off to move to anywhere in the UK and support yourself is to find an employer who will give you a position. The challenge for the employer is they have to justify to the government why they cannot find a UK citizen who is equally qualified for the same job. Therefore, you need to distinguish yourself in some way to make the case that you are uniquely qualified for a particular job.

Good luck if this is the direction you choose to go.
