or go to the local library before you leave, pick up a phrase cd or something, I"ve seena few with really basic chinese but learning in sentences and the tones. Most speak with a southernish accent though....not quiet an ER sound but nearly lol!
Goodluck, CHinese is fun, so havea positive attitude and practise for at least an hr every day! Plus an hour for your CHaracters!
