HELLO ALL,

Some of you might not be very familiar with Baku, AZerbaijan, so I will just do a brief decription.

Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan use to be part of the old USSR, but got its independent in 1992. From old history, Baku was called the city of fire and also city of wind. Azerbaijan is situated around the caspian sea, Iran, Georgia, Turkey and Russia.

Azerbaijan major source of national revenue is Oil. This is also the major pulling factor that draws lots of foriegner into the city Baku.

Majority of the Azeribaijanis are Muslim; Azerbaijan to me has the most tolerant muslim. Christains are found in minority with a large number from the expats in Baku. I attend Baku International Fellowship which is a non-denominational gathering of believers from various countries and continent.

The Azerbaijanis are very passionate about their occupied territory of Nargono- Karabakh. The consequecies of the occupation is that Azerbaijan has a record population of the country with the most Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The government of Azerbaijan is very active towards ensuring that the IDPs are given a good life and that it occupied territory is recovered back.

Baku is a beautiful city with lots of good cites; lots of structural constructions are going on in a fast rate in Azerbaijan. This is largely atributed to the increase in the economical revenue generated from its OIL.

Finally, the natives are hospitable. Discrimnation is almost minimal as compared to its sister nations. All in all, Azerbaijan will be a good place to get a feel of.

My family and I may be moving to Baku in June, 2008 and are looking for reliable advice and guidance on housing, schooling (7 yr old boy), and where we can buy medical insurance in the US or UK that is accepted in any of the international medical facilities/centres in Baku.  If anyone can guide us we would be grateful.   dmartinlutes@yahoo.com
Thanks.
