New MERS virus spreads easily, deadlier than SARS

Hi to everyone!

I am considering to move with my husband and daughter to Jeddah in due course.
Are there any concerns within the expat community of Jeddah on the matter of MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome)? This infectious virus has emerged (reportedly) within the last 2-3 months with a potential location of origin in KSA (Western Coast). It has recently been described by WHO representatives as 'the single biggest public health threat'.

For more information see the website: http://news.yahoo.com/mers-virus-spread … 12196.html

If you have any recommendation or view on how to respond adequately to this threat - kindly comment.

Yours truly,
MASTE

I am not in Jeddah, but this article quoting Saudis says the news is overblown:

The reported cases are only around 50 so there is nothing to be worried about. It is only dangerous for sick old people, and those with deseases that weakened their immune systems.

there is not much attention, coming from the expat side---- it is either it is rarely on the news, or I just can't read arabic newspapers.

personally, i just update myself about this virus on the internet, and i haven't seen any drastic move from my employer, or the government to warn the community.

although, we have been doing the common preventions, like good health and avoiding crowded places.
