Not an easy country to relocate to. No work for expatriates, very hard visa restrictions, and not a cheap place to live in.

You cannot just arrive in country and expect to get work. You must have a valid job offer from a company who then go through the visa process. Very little work on offer and you must have a specialist skill that a local cannot do. For this reason I work in different countries around the world and come back to Laos on my leave breaks.

I have been coming and going from there for over 40 years. I am married to a Lao woman and we have 3 children. I have to go in and out on a single entry tourist visa which is valid for only 30 days and costs $30 each time. The cost of a residency visa is $5000 and the qualifications to get one are very restrictive.

Very very difficult to get long term residency visa.

You are best to look online at the Lao government immigration website regarding visas. You should also do an online search to find out more about Laos.

For cost of living numbeo.com inflation is running at approximately 7% at the moment so each year goods get more expensive by 7%. Locals are finding it more and more difficult to get by.

In the tourist places some English is spoken but not in the country in general. As you do not speak any Lao you would find it difficult to get by and the same would apply for your wife and family.
