BTL and internet and security deposit refund

Just moved to Belize 5 weeks ago. We bought some property outside of Belmopan and are renting in Belmopan while we are building. Tried to get Internet through BTL but the land line is apparently overloaded in the area and were told we have to get wireless. Had to contact the landlord since they wanted to drill holes in the walls and after they told the landlord that she would still be responsible for any damage they cause the deal went sour. Cancelled the contract and went with cable vision, they came the same day and in 45 minutes they were done. BTL tried to collect a security deposit of BZ1,000 when we signed up because we are foreigners, they reduced it to BZ500 but it looks like they have a hell of a time to refund the money, still waiting or the check, they take your cash, but if it's more than 300 they do it via check. Customer service really sucks, nobody wants to take any responsibility.
By the way, no higher security deposit with cable!

Hi  Werner123,

Welcome to expat-blog!

Thank you,

David.

Thanks David for that info. We have gotten some confusing answers on cable costs. Do you know if that is countrywide prices? Or is that for your area?  Thanks again.

Hi,
We went with Central Cable Vision and we are in Belmopan right now. The installation was 50 (BTL is 100) then it depends if you want to purchase the modem or rent it and what kind of speed you want, they do ask for security deposit, this again has to do with the speed you want, but they make no difference if you are a resident or a foreigner.
Hope that helps

Werner
