Ghana or no Ghana

I am considering accepting a job in Ghana as an expat. We would live in Accra in supplied accomodation. I feel excited by the prospect and unsure at the same time (no doubt exactly the same as anyone else who has made the same type of move). One of my biggest concerns is what life is like outside of work, and then how easy it might be for my wife to find a job.

My wife and I enjoy the outdoors and being active. In particular we like walking, cycling, motorcycling and playing golf, plus other regular socialising etc. Other experiences are always welcome.

Can anyone give me some insights on how you might perceive our reaction to living and working in Ghana might be please?

Many thanks.
Ian.

It is always a bit daunting moving to another country and one as different as Ghana. Socialising and golf are the easy things to cover as there will be no problem with either. The outdoor life might be a little more difficult due to the weather but people do cycle and go bushwalking etc so I am sure you can find opportunities for both in areas around Accra.
It depends on your wife's skills as to whether she can find a job. You will have to consider the resident's permit conditions too. A spouse isn't usually entitled to work unless she gets a work permit in her own right. However there are lots of things for her to get invoved in and groups to join.
Personally I find Ghana a great place to live but you have to make your own decision.

Hello and thank you for the guidance.

Without wanting to appear dumb what do you mean about the weather. Is it the heat or does it rain alot?

It is hot! It is the wet season at the moment so it does rain but not too often.

So many expats in Accra these days.  It is a pretty comfortable transition these days.  This is probably the easiest time to make such a move.  I am still based in the US but run a business in Ghana.  I go often and run into people from all over the world.  Your spouse getting a job is another story.  Doing something entreperneurial is the best.

Coming into Accra as an expat is a lovely experience. I enjoy the weather, the food, the people and the environment. Looking forward to seeing You in Accra.
