Queen's Day Amsterdam: What's an Expat To Do?

Okay, my wife and I (mid 30s) booked a hotel room in Amsterdam (Joordan area) for April 29-30th.   I've seen ads for private parties for Queen's Day hosted by restaurants, namely one at the Royal Cafe (Zuiderkerk).  Are these parties worth the price? Any other suggestions for an organized event, or do we wing it.  We know little to no Dutch, we're only hear a short term, returning to the States next month, but wanted to join in the fun and craziness of Queen's Day in Amsterdam.  Thanks for the advice!

I'm not sure how to get invited to the canal parties unless you know someone but they always look like they are having a wonderful time. You won't need to know how to speak Dutch almost everone can speak English. Be prepared for some crazy fun!
