Biking in Yangon as an expat

Hey guys.

I've heard that biking is not permitted in downtown Yangon, but generally accepted.  If I bought a bike, would it generally be okay for me to use it as I please?

I'm making the move from Ho Chi Minh city, and will definitely miss the freedom of hopping on my scooter and going around the city as I please.  As I'm sure a scooter would not be acceptable, I thought I bike might be a good alternative.
