Epic romatic place in downtown Budapest

Hello beautiful people
In few days I'll be in Budapest to meet the most interesting guy in the world.I have been looking for the place, some special place where we could meet, we thought about railway station, airport - but i came with idea to find some romantic place - so we can remember it for a lifetime.
Does anyone have any suggestions - Its mine and his first time in Budapest - we don't know the city and there is a lot of nice places as i sow.
So if you could recommend me some special unique place - i would be so thankful!

Also i have planed to buy a candles and put it all over that place in the street, bridge or wherever so it would be romantic-lllly epic

Hello paco&bach.

Welcome to Expat.com! :)

So as to make it more visible, your post has been moved to the Budapest forum.

Thank you,
Aurélie

On the chain bridge. By one of the pillars.

The candles around giving light yet they fight to give warmth to the winter night air swirling around them and you.

You shiver.

Is it the cold or your anticipation? Maybe both. These two contradicting elements seem to strangely complement each other and wind their fingers both around and within you.

And suddenly they come together and burst within your chest....

For there he is. You see him.

Walking toward you. Carrying the red rose you agreed he would have to identify him. Despite all your will and desires that say to rush to him, you don't. The ecstasy of this first sight roots you to the ground. The moment lingers as if it controls your ability to resist.

Slowly. He walks toward you. The agony and joy combined, as if all the possibilities yet to be are contained in that moment....

Then the cold night air seems to suddenly evaporate into a sudden burst of glowing warmth, for he has just touched you for the first time.

You look at him. He looks back. Words are not needed.....

Sigh.....

(If you do this, let me know how it went.)

P.S. I think I need to find a florist and ask my wife is she can take a long weekend.....

Thank you very much for a reply

I was also thinking about Chain Bridge, but is there a lot of noise, are cars allowed to cross the bridge???

I was also thinking about Fisherman Bastion, its says that is allowed people to enter until 23h, and we were thinking about to meet around 18h, it would be great because Bastion is far away of the roads and river so it wouldn't be cold to wait and it wouldn't be noisy. You've gave me an amazing idea with flower, thank you so much. I will consider Chain Bridge as good option, first of all cause the bridge is right next to place we have rent it.

Did you see Fisherman Bastion, the place is so romantic??

If you were in my situation what would you choose?

P.S. I'll definitely think about the bridge.

Hi!

On top of the Buda Castle Tunnel.

Epic spot. Breathtaking view to Chain bridge.

I guess it also depends on the date (winter or spring?) and your taste, budget, age... I guess none of you is a local?

As the above suggestions indicate, the hilly nature of Buda offers exceedingly great views to the Danube and its jewels, if weather and inner fire permits, some locations are a bit touristy though which, for me, is not so compatible with 'romantic'.

E.g. I think the restaurant at 'Vajdahunyad Castle' is not only expensive, full of tourists, but I heard it is also bad - you can still have a tea - the view is unrivalled.

The 'Sikló' train descending from from the Buda castle is another special experience; from the lower end you can walk across the Chain Bridge e.g. into the truly beautiful (and pricey) hotel-café in Gresham Palais)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_C … _Funicularhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gresham_Palace

Or, starting from a different bridge, walk from Hotel Gellért to the Cave chapel,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gell%C3%A9rt_Hill_Cave
and further up (I think 15 min to the top is reasonable).

MY personal *must* is an evening/night boot trip - I know it sounds too touristy, but it is a tried and tested ;)the view is even more breath-taking. That can be a bit more expensive though if using tourist boats.
However, the public transport company (BKV) is also operating Boats, afaik even during winter (I havent tried them yet):

Simply walking along the Pest promenade (near Börösmarty tér) gazing at the Buda side, or, if cold, taking the Tram 2, is also an option. Restaurants along that mile will probably all aim at tourists, but the great view is there, too.

Lets not forget about the date-paradise (of a certain age-group) that is the Mũjég ie. the ice skating ring in Városliget with the amazing building and view to Vajdahunyad castle (just be aware that the median age is below 20...)

...and - how come we mention this only now? - walking on *Margaret Island*, THE romance spot on summer evenings... granted, it has less view, so you may get bored;)
Nah, just kidding, just sit/stand at teh south tip, below the bridge, and look at the Parliament. Btw, that view was a big factor I decided to move home after 20 yrs.
Then walk on the newly renovated Margit Híd to Pest, and
to regain lost calories, there is nice new café 'Maródi Cukrászda' at Jászai Mari tér at the end of Margit Bridge. (You also may like to walk further into Újlipótváros i.e. the part opposite to Margaret island)

Or, 5 min. from the Margaret Bridge, find a small but cute cinema-café called 'Kino' hidden at the right side of Vígszinház (the young owner worked in the UK for years). The cinema (which I never tried) is off-mainstream, showing artistic movies too

A totally different thing, perhaps not traditional romantic, but worth mentioning, is Corvintető, a nice  underground bar/danceklub on the roof - google some pictures!  I don't know if the roof area is open in the winter though.

None of the above is particularly expensive... if you ignore Gresham Palace, but walking in is for free.

There are a lot of 'floating restaurants' in the boats on the Pest side with view to Buda Castle (don't know about buda), of course not exactly 'budget' for most of us, but the view...

I just mention in passing as it is obvious that, Budapest being the ex-second-capital of the Habsburg Monarchy, there are plenty of classical, turn-of-the-century cafés and restaurants: Café New York ('must see' its Hotel Boscolo now), Café Gerbaud,... some *are* breathtaking, even before you get the bill, just google some photos.

Finally, I googled a different list:

I think that may be enough for now - let us know how it went;-)

Am I late yet?
There is a "secret" little cave-chapel not high up on "Gellert hegy" hill:

Hey Szöcske! yep, you are totally late -  I already called dibs on the cave chapel ;-)  but, looking at the picture, I am not sure if it is the most romantic place inside - I can't remember being inside though. However, the walk up the hill is, imho.

Depends on your idea of romantic, but definitely enchanted.

No, you are not late friend yet.
Actually, right now I have arrived in Budapest and preparing myself to go to Fisherman Bastion, I just couldn't make decision witch place I should take so I choose the first I find at the beginning.

But I have marked all of the places you recommended and I m gonna visit them for sure.

I appreciate enormously yours effort. Thank you.

He is coming in just 2/3 hours. Wish me luck. I'll write a post how everything went, btw it's snowing and it's somehow even more romantic and I'm deadly nervous.

Love

We are sitting on needles...!!

Hello my fellow friends.
I still can't believe i m writing the post reply
We have met, and it wasn't the fisherman bastion, nor another place, we have met long time ago...seems funny but we have non-each other since forever.
In the town we met on the street between elevator that takes you up at Buda hill and Fisherman Bastion. I couldn't wait any longer in front of Fisherman Bastion so I decide to meet him halfway.

I feel insecure like never before I feel calm, angry, sad, beautiful, ashamed ...happy, lucky it's seems that he awakes every existing feeling in me. Makes me feel alive, and when he touches me the time simply stop.

And what is funny and not real is that he feels the same.

Thank you all once again.

Gawddddamm! What a thread!
Even after two years!

Love stories never age... <3

Sounds like you had a good time.
Suppose it doesn't really matter where two people meet as long as they are the right two people.
I met my Hungarian husband back in 1974 in an elevator.
Was with my older sister and her HU boyfriend going from a party to a dance club in Hollywood, Calif. I was 19.
They invited my now husband along to dance and our eyes met.(weird at least for me it was love at first site, I am not a romantic person by nature either.)
He looked allot like Rod Stewart and knew how to dress.
He was also much older, an old man of 26 years old and had seen the world already.
Our son met and married a HU girl he met in Hungary in the mid 2000's.
he took her to all the most romantic places in Budapest all the time. Dinner boat rides, walks in the park, etc.
He purposed to her in Hero's square right under the statue of one of my husband's long ago tribal relations, one of the 7 barbarians, Tas.
In the long run it was not a romantic relationship, she was only after a green card to the US.if something is not meant to be, one can not force it.
I hope your new love works out for you and you have many happy years together.
