Hey everyone!
I'm French but been living in Copenhagen for almost 4 years now. I'm getting used to living here now and I truly love Copenhagen, but I have to say that life is not easy everyday here, I'm longing to see the sun again and eating proper food wouldn't be too bad either! Apart from that, I'm married to a Dane, so I'm not gonna complain about Danes :P and generally living here is cool and easy (once you sorted out all your immigration issues). I started my life all over again, started studying again and I'm quite happy about my social life, but I wouldn't mind meeting more people, sharing with new expats is always interesting.
Even though I got to like my life here, I'd like to experience something new, so I'm here to also meet some expats form other countries to know more about potential new homes.

Welcome on board Lula!

Why did you move to Copenhaguen at the very beginning? And what would be your first advice for someone who would like to live there?

All the best,

Julien

Thanks!
I came in the first place to study, just for one year, and then I met a sweet guy who has become my husband since, so I staid!

If you wanna come here, just a few things you should know:

-It's not super cold but windy and very wet, think about it when you pack!

-Don't be shy, Danes are mostly really nice people, but they are not the most outgoing people, they won't come to you easily, but if you go towards them, then you can meet some really cool people. They seem very cold at first,  and maybe they are, but it's just a different culture, and they are just as nice as anyone else...

-If you're a girl and planning on going back home after some time: DO NOT TALK TO ANY GUY!!! it's very dangerous, almost all the foreign girls I met ended up married to a dane:-) I can't explain it but there must be something special about danish guys, in my experience, it didn't work as well the other way round, foreign guys with Danish girls though, but I might not know the right people. I heard on the radio the 1 marriage out of 8 in DK (and it concerns mainly guys) is between a Dane and a foreigner!

-Be careful about what you eat, the winters are long (and when it's grey outside, cold and windy, it's a lot more appealing to stay home with a cup of coco and some chocolate, than going to the gym, or simply hang out and stop for a salad when you're hungry)and the food quite fatty, expensive and not much variation in it, I know a lot of people, including me who put on a lot of weight here.

That's about it, hope you still feel like coming here!

Thanks Lula, for this advice, do you mind creating a new topic in the living in Europe forum and copy your nice text in it? You could call it "living in Copenhagen" or something like that?

Hi Lula,

Copenhagen is truly beautiful place, have been visiting for one day only (ferry trip from Poland) but I want to visit again...

Greetings from London, Margot

Hi Lula,

Nice to hear that many expats have managed to happily settle in Copenhagen. I've spent a few months working here, and although I absolutely love the city, I must admit I'm finding it difficult to find new friends. People are very nice at work, but they all have their family lives. I thought there would be some organization here arranging social events for expats, but there doesn't seem to be anything... Any advice from your part would be greatly appreciated.

Have a nice day,
Ellie
