So...we just started useing a famous software (not sure if I can mention product names here) for learning languages..we used it for learning German too...We have Mandrin...I have only just started..and I'm thinking this is going to be very challengeing!!
We aren't looking to become totally literate..LOL..just so we can get around and not be totally frustrated.
Is it really helpful to speak Mandrin and how bad of a mistake are they willing to forgive??  I don't want to start and international incident or insult anyone....

from experience I know that if you get the tones right, but may mispronounce the word, people can still figure out what you're trying to say. Tones are important! The great thing is, Chinese people know that their language is hard to learn and they are very helpful and friendly. I've had too many instances to count where someone has helped when if I was lost or couldn't find something in the store...no need to worry about starting an international incident!wink.png
