Marriage and Divorce Certificates for Previous Marriage

I have been married to the same woman for nearly 30 years  but I had a previous marriage that ended in divorce which was more than 30 years ago. Is it absolutely necessary to submit the cetificates of the previous marriage and divorce when applying for a retirement visa? It has been so long ago that I no longer have those documents. I have moved countless times since my divorce having had a military career. Is that going to cause me problems?

Hi,

We believe that you should contact the consulate in Miami for this question.  BUT!  We moved here from Jacksonville, FL in November of 2011, and there were no questions asked of  us about previous marriages.  All we needed was our marriage certificate showing that we WERE married.  Like you, we have been married 30 years.  We each got divorced two years prior.

If you need to know anything else about the moving docs needed, let us know.  It was really a piece of cake, and we even had two pups to move with us.

Carole & Ray Walter in beautiful Cuenca.

P.S.  We love it here and would never want to move back to the USA.

Thanks YankeeFlyer4U, that certainly sounds encouraging.

Ray,
I guess we are all in the same boat. The time frame is almost the same for me. Married 30 years this March, divorced prior to this marriage for 2 years. As I understand, all Ecuador is concerned with is your current status.
My wife has decided to hold off on making the move with me.... maybe 2 years down the road... maybe never. I can't hold off any longer, so I'm taking the plunge.
Good Luck to You
Neil
