Internet

Obviously everyone on this blog has access to Internet, and from what I have read about the prices of it in Belize, how do you afford it? Am I missing something? I wanted to expatiate to Belize last year but changed last minute and came to Costa Rica. Now my mind is wandering back to Belize. But I would absolutely have to have 3 gigs at least to work. Thanks!

Are you talking about DSL?  If so, I think you must mean 3 Mb, if you are talking about connection speed. If you're talking about data transfer capacity, that is unlimited for a given speed, as far as I know.

Good news and bad news:  BTL is in the process right now of doubling up internet speed, so costs are coming down.  Bad news is to get a 4 Mb line (they don't have 3 Mb lines, only 2 and 4), you are looking at $390 BZ monthly (divide by 2 for USD cost).  Here's a graphic on Facebook showing the rates:

We afford it because we live in a condo complex with shared lines, and the cost is included in our very reasonable monthly HOA fees.  If we lived in a private home, we might consider SMART's USB device instead of BTL.  You can read more about it on San Pedro Scoop's blog here:

Maybe that solution would work for you?
