Want to Teach in Cambodia

Hi! I came across an ad for a teaching job in Cambodia some time ago and since then, I've been seriously contemplating about finding a job there. I'm a Filipina currently working here in Indonesia and I'd like to ask about my chances of landing a job there as a Preschool or Primary Teacher. I know there are many Filipinas there searching for work, too, or are already working there so it'd be really helpful to know if the process is difficult.  I'd also like to ask about the salary range (Preschool/Primary Teacher) if anyone could share some info.
And lastly, I'd really like to bring my kids along and maybe help my hubby get a job as  well. Is the environment great for my kids? Is it worth taking my family with me?
I hope to get a response from someone, soon. Thank you so much. Looking forward to learning more about Cambodia. =)

The process of landing a job and working here is easy and trouble free, I know some English teachers here earn about $1,000 per month, they can lose 10% in tax. I am unsure about general teachers wages.

People bring children here, there are schools for them, I don't see any big problems for them here.

As for your husband, there is not a great variety of jobs for foreigners here, either English teachers or NGO and a few others.

if you're a christian , Hope International School is looking for teachers
take a look

@ phnom penh & aaliyah: thanks so much for your replies. i'm checking the link you sent and will be sending my application soon. really appreciate the help. =) there's one position opened for their siem reap campus and i was wondering if you could tell me more about siem reap?  i've looked it up on google and have read what wiki has to say about it, but it's always so much better hearing it from people who know the place firsthand so it'd be great if you could share your knowledge. =)
@ aaliyah: would you happen to know anyone working in HOPE International School? it says they pay for living allowance, but what does that exactly mean? sorry for my hundred and one questions but asking here is so much better than spending hours googling info but getting nowhere. so thanks in advance for your next replies. hehe. =) mmmm....anywho, what about filipinos who lack a university degree? are there jobs available for them in cambodia, too? oh, and please please tell me about living expenses...how much does a person/family of 4 need to get by (in dollars)? oh, i've got so much more to ask...but i'll leave it at that for the meantime. =) hope to hear from either of you again. thanks so much.

Jobs can be had here without a degree, there are English teachers here without one.

Siem Reap is very touristy, it is greener and has less traffic than PP, perhaps a better place for children to live. Rents can be a little higher in SR than PP, but houses with land are more available, the Wat Bo area is a place expats are living in more and more now due to lower rents.

Here are some living expenses in PP, a mans view perhaps:

Golden Virginia 50g pouches $3.6
Marlboro lights (200) $10.5
Local cigarettes (200) $3
Pint of beer $1.5-$2
Gin and Tonic $1.5-$2
Whiskey bottle (Jim Beam) $9.95
Coca Cola (can) $0.50
Pizza $3.00
Cheeseburger $3.00
Soap $0.45
1kg of laundry $1
Rent 2 bedroom apartment $300 per month
Cable TV per month $5
Water utility per month $5
Electricity per month $18 (based on single person in apartment, no air-con)
Waste collection per month $1
Maid to clean home $50
Internet dongle unlimited internet $20 per month
Viagra 4 tabs (zeagra) $1.6-$3
Fried rice small meal $1.5
Noodle soup $1.5

A family of 4 will use more water and electricity of course, in SR waste collection costs $3 per month. In SR you may find a 2 bedroom house or apartment for $300-350 per month if you look in the right places.

i'm sorry i don't know anybody yet who works there , but you can contact them and ask them directly

thanks again phnom penh and aaliyah. =) your answers have been helpful. :D

sounds to me like they want a preacher.

i think you would do well to find a place where you could teach english, and leave the preaching to a qualified con artist...

i have not arrived as yet but have read many places that native english speakers can find work teaching in PP, even with no TEFL certificate.  i will go to PP and take a good, long look around before deciding to move there!  i think you should, too.  and i know your kids (etc) make that more difficult.  they make it vitally important, as well.

they don't want a preacher , they want somebody who  can teach them  math , sports, arts, geography, English ... etc, AND be a living example of good christian, the majority of kids there come from families of Christian missionaries.

Part of the reason I want to go to Cambodia is to avoid Christian missionaries, among other groups.

lol .. you'll find the majority of foreigners  here are Christian missionaries :D

Hi there!
I am Jayrome, Filipino, and currently here in the Philippines. I am planning to work as English Teacher in Cambodia or anywhere in Southeast Asia but I don't know where to start. I am graduate of BSE - English and has PRC license in teaching. I do have variety of teaching experiences, classroom-based, on-line, and even tutorial to Filipino and Korean students.
Would you help me on how to start my journey teaching abroad?
