Cost of living in Singapore

A friend of mine wants me to join him in Singapore in order to start a new business. The thing is that I've never been in SG. I heard Singapore is expensive, and that I might have to share a flat at the beginning. Can anybody share his/her experience of living in Singapore?

It would be very interesting to know the:

> accomodation prices,

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer and of a coffee in a regular pub

am I forgetting something?

In general - housing, cars, fine dining, alcohol, and cigarettes are expensive in Singapore. Education is expensive at international schools but not at local ones. Food and public transportation is pretty cheap.

A lot of single expats and some couples do share flats to start with.

Prices fluctuate quite a lot -- we've got some links to typical prices on our Cost of Living post, that might help...
