Driving from riyadh to dubai?!

we'd like to take the drive from riyadh to dubai and looking for any advice we might need

we'll be travelling with 2small kids. we've heard that the drive out of saudia is approx. 5hrs and then a further 4hrs to dubai.

after these 5hrs, are there perhaps hotels or places to stop before carrying on further?

we'd also like to stop over in abu dhabi. would we first pass abu dhabi and then dubai?

Hi,

I'm afraid to tell you that the trip is shockingly long and overwhelming. First you have to drive to Hofuf which will take from 4 to 5 hrs, depending on your cruise speed. Then you may want to head up to Salwa and from there keep going to the frontier with UAE for another 4 hrs aproximately. Depending on the queue, you can wait in the customs about 1-2 hrs and from there you have to drive to Abu Dhabi and then reach Dubai. If you're tough enough you'll be driving a whole day just to get to Abu Dhabi but with several stops I would say that 2 days trip will be most accurate.

Honestly, that trip is really hardcore (specially for cars) so check your engine first and then plan your journey with googlemaps or wikimapia. Or just take a cheap flight and keep it simple.
