Obviously there are many reasons but if I had to choose 5 they would be:

1)Personally, the level of contentment and peace I have found here since visiting France (Bordeaux and Sarlat Dordogne)for the 1st time in 2006. France is now "home" and a place where I dream of living for the rest of my life. I just need to find the "how".
2)My son and his young family, including two young children, live in Germany and I wish to be closer to them than what I am in Australia. I want to be a physical part of their lives on a regular basis.
3)I love the deep seated culture and the French loyalty to their own, especially in the countryside.
4)The natural beauty and choice that one has. Every Departement is different yet interesting,and beautiful in its own way.
5)France and all it is about makes life interesting every day.

this depends on your age and  ideal lifestlye.. i came to france when i was in my early 20's... not as a student but a young professional... so experiencewise, id say ---

1) "mandatory" holiday leave
2) health system
3) train system - perfect to go places - in and around france
4) desserts!
5) easy access to training for all age groups, different fields
