Questions from the wife :o)

Hi All,

The wife asked me to post a couple of questions that have been niggling at her:

1. My wife takes thyroxine for an under-active thyroide, she gets these prescription under an exemption certificate. Is there such a thing in Malta or would she have to pay for the tablets.

2. What qualifications are needed for care workers, she currently has 4 years experience and is working towards her NVQ II

3. Is the availability of care work in hospitals/care homes.

many many thanks in advance

Hi Ken,

exemptions depend on the personal insurance situation , age and other criteria and the Maltese health system is not based on residency but on contributions or entitlements so you would need to reasearch the situation.

The cost of Levothyroxin 25 mcg , 28 tablets , is 2.29 € so buying them from the pharmacy would not be a big deal.

My guess is that any kind if professional job qualifications from the UK would put her way up the list here in Malta. Jobs are certainly available but the pay will probably be disappointing and learning a bit of Maltese would be helpful as Maltese tend to communicate in Maltese , all the more so those in care.

Cheers
Ricky
